President Mugabe meets Industry Leaders

The local industry leaders recently met with the head of state and government, President R.G. Mugabe in a meeting whose organization was led by CZI. The meeting took place at the State House to discuss the current economic crisis.The local industry leaders recently met with the head of state and government, President R.G. The Business called on the government to come up with reforms and implement them to address the economic situation. Business highlighted that the country is faced with high unemployment due to continuous closure of companies, both private and state owned, retrenchments, foreign currency and cash shortages as well as corruption.
Also highlighted by Government was the importance of foreign investors particularly in key productive sectors, that is Agriculture, Mining and Manufacturing as one of the key measures in tackling the country’s economic crisis.

The head of state was applauded by the Industry on securing an investor for the midlands based ZISCOSTEE as a stepping stone to economic growth and economic recovery.
Business also explained the President that Zimbabwe is one of the countries with the highest cost of doing business in the region which are a result of high utility tariffs, corruption and high rates and taxes. Business called for comprehensive reforms so as to enhance business competitiveness in the country.

The President also challenged business people to be more entrepreneurial. He concurred with business on the issue of parastatals going further to explain how they had become a burden on the economy. 

It was agreed that there should be regular and periodic meeting between business and the President.
